There is another important advantage - CW Free Edition.
It makes a huge difference to have a real debugger. Learning to use an IDE also better prepares a student for a real job.
What would be a great help is to create an Eagle layout for a blank board and for FSL to create a prototype board.

John, I've considered that and that may or may not be the most economical solution for us long term. There's a chance that we could produce our own elevators in large enough volume that we could do it affordably. The other advantage to tweaking the design is that we could add hardware to the elevators if we find something that we should add.

Ryan, for your height problem the $0.01 solution, you could probably physically cut the elevator in half. It's just copper traces in there. You would expose those traces...but I'd be willing to wager you can strap some electrical tape over it and never notice.

Ryan. Nice video... FYI, the schematics for the tower system are available on the resources page here at towergeeks.org Let us know if you need anything else. Your project sounds pretty sweet and we can't wait to see your tower in action. Shoot me a personal message here at tower geeks with your mailing address and we'll send you a tower geeks shirt for uploading your project description video. Nice work!

Hey Eduardo, schematics are available at http://handyboard.com/oldhb/schemv12/hbsch12.pdf . The Handy Board is pretty great as far as connectivity and I/O, it's just getting outdated and we're having more reliability issues than we'd like to deal with.

Hey Ryan, wow that is the first true production Tower that I've see (white stickers on top). Thanks for putting video up! I'm working on getting the design files (schematic source and layout) uploaded so you can get started on your 2 slot Elevator and other Tower Geeks can get their design on! There were tons on robotics teams that approached me at ASEE wanting to make a 2 slot, low profile elevator. So I think your onto something as long as you maintain the standard bus signals for module compatibility. Keep the info coming on what your working on.. Do you have schematics on the Handy board? Upload them, I am curious to learn what is on there.. -Eduardo
