Are there more complete manuals for the Tower components? All I can find for the main board is the "quick start guide", and even the "serial module user manual" is not much better (only 4 pages, but at least it describes the jumpers...)

For that matter, the MCF51CN128 datasheet is pretty skimpy as well. Are the peripherals documented separately? I found the coldfire family programers reference manual, but it doesn't include any info on peripherals (or on the V1 core, for that matter...) I guess many of the peripherals are documented in the 8bit flexis family devices (?), but what about the ethernet controller?

WestW, thanks for bringing this to our attention. All the documentation that you are looking for exists and will be updated at freescale.com/tower and the towergeeks.org resource page ASAP. I will come back and post when all the updates are completed.

There is a TWR-MCF51CN-UM that has detailed info on that MCU module. There is also a MCF51CN128 MCU reference manual that has module by module information beyond the datasheet. Again, our apologies for confusion. This will be resolved.

Ah; the MCF51CN128 reference manual is now on the tower page and on the cpu product page (perhaps it always was and I just didn't see it last night.)

WestW, It was definitely not your eyes tricking you. The RM was pulled down accidentally.

Go to TWR-MCF51CN-KIT Documentation page for all documentation currently available and the TWR-MCF51CN-KIT Downloads page for all schematics.

The one file missing from these links is the TWR-MCF51CN-UM "User Manual". I have attached it here for everyone's convenience.

(intersting; this document seems to trash Apple's "Preview" reader. It shows up fine in acrobat reader, though.)

weird! I don't use a Mac at work so not sure why it would "trash" it. It's a simple pdf.

PS: Thanks!

Good to hear. It took me far too long to find the reference manual. I think it would be helpful to generate more documentation for people new to microcontrollers as well.

Eduardo,

I went to the tower site but I was unable to find the user manual for the MCF51CN Tower module? Is it just too early in the morning for me or what?

No, I am still trying to get that uploaded. See the attachment above for it.

Since I've been studying the schematics, I have another question...

Is there a document describing the "Tower Bus" ? I notice that there are carefully defined signals on the connectors in the schematics that are not used by any of the current hardware, and many of them have names that indicate that they probably have well-defined functions...

When the secondary elevator is implemented with live connections, will it be a duplicate of the signals on the first elevator (so a full system could have two ethernets, etc), or will there be another defined set of signals?

Ah. I see there is supposed to be a "Freescale Tower Electromechanical Specification. " (mentioned in section 3.6 of the TWR-MCF51CN User Manual.) Not seeing it anywhere, though.
